The webinar is organized by Marche Region, as Italian Project Partner of the EUSAIR Facility Point, in cooperation with the Permanent Secretariat of the Adriatic Ionian Initiative, within the framework of the initiatives related to the celebrations of the twenty anniversary of the Ancona Charter and of the Adriatic and Ionian Initiative.

The meeting will take place on August 25th, at 17 p.m. online (https://zoom.us/j/94673688640) and will focus on: “Fundamental Rights and EU Enlargement: prospects in the Adriatic Ionian Area”.

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused an unprecedented global health and socio-economic crisis, risking compromising the protection of fundamental rights. As governments gradually lift some of the measures put in place to contain the spread of COVID-19, new fundamental rights concerns arise.

Confronted with an unprecedented health crisis, the European Union is now faced with the dilemma on how to tackle its economic impact in a joint fashion. In the meantime, after almost two years of postponement, it has given green light to the start of the accession talks with Albania and North Macedonia. The webinar will explore ways on how to advance the protection of fundamental rights while at the same time move forward with the enlargement process in the Western Balkans, especially during a period in which some setbacks have been noticed.
