On September 24th in Bari (Italy) a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Permanent Secretariat of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative (AII-PS) and the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM) Bari establishing a collaboration aimed at strengthening dialogue and cohesion between the Adriatic-Ionian region, in line with the European integration process.

The ceremony was attended by Maurizio Raeli, Director of CIHEAM Bari, and Ambassador Giovanni Castellaneta, Secretary General of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative.

This partnership will bring significant benefits for Italy and for the countries of the Western Balkan area, both in the field of youth training and in the development of economic potential.

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has promoted this important moment of formalization between the AII-PS and CIHEAM Bari, with the aim of demonstrating Italy's interest in the Western Balkan region.

Furthermore, specific development cooperation initiatives, aimed at strengthening the institutions of the Adriatic-Ionian countries, will be supported through projects with a direct impact on the territories. These projects aim at the diversification of economic systems and the use of technological innovations and computerization to strengthen institutions.
This partnership will also help to support the definition of joint strategies and projects, the exchange of experts between the two Organizations, as well as the promotion of seminars and meetings on topics of mutual interest.
