In the framework of the Italian CEI Presidency, the Meeting of the Parliamentary Committee of the CEI Parliamentary Dimension under the title “Strengthening the local dimension of the Central European Initiative” took place in Trieste on 27-28 May.

The meeting focused on how to develop an ever closer and more effective connection with regional and local authorities, thus creating a privileged relationship with them and further enhancing cooperation, considering that “local and regional authorities represent the governance level closest to the citizens and could provide a significant contribution to the EU integration process”, as stated by CEI Secretary General Roberto Antonione,

Ambassador Pigliapoco, AII Senior Advisor, participated to the session entitled “Acting locally for the CEI: the role of the local and regional authorities in supporting the CEI objectives” addressing the audience as keynote speaker reporting on the experience of the Adriatic & Ionian Initiative in this specific field. The AII has indeed developed over the years strong links especially with the three Fora of the Civil Society based in Ancona (Chambers of Commerce, Cities and Universities).

As underlined by Amb. Pigliapoco, the Macroregional strategy is founded on the principle of subsidiarity, therefore the relations with local, regional authorities, universities, economic actors (Chambers of Commerce) together with the civil society are central to the EUSAIR and to achieve AII objectives.

Participants ended their meeting with the approval of the Final Document.
